Streets Of Vientiane

Vientiane is the capital city and one of several ancient cities in Laos. It is situated in the Mekong River Valley like our other major cities, Luang Prabang and Pakse. About 1,200 years ago, Vientiane played an important political, economic, cultural and social role.

Vientiane was the place where King Fa Ngum made a great celebration after his success in unifying the Lan Xang Kingdom and it became the capital of the Lan Xang Kingdom in 1560. Vientiane is an ancient city but was abandoned many times. It was reconstructed at the beginning of the 20th century.

Our photos looks like Vientiane is still in the ice age, but the truth of the matter is that other cities in south east asia is no different to Vientiane. Vientiane has wide open spaces, with small buildings and not much traffic so it's easy to get around.

Things are improving in Vientiane since our new government came into power in 1975. There are more paved roads, new buildings and residential areas, and services and facilities in the city for local people and tourists is very adequate. But the thing we like most about Vientiane is that we have a very low rate of violent crime compared to other major cities in the world and the people of Vientiane are very warm and friendly in a true way, that's the reason why Vientiane is such a great city to live in.
